MENA’s 5G surge is a data opportunity

In the Middle East, one market has already completed the network rollout that most operators are still planning. The UAE has achieved 100% 5G coverage, and its IoT segment shows the highest revenue growth of any market in the world, at a 40.1% CAGR (PwC). Saudi Arabia is following a similar trajectory, with its smart cities programme driving IoT and fibre-optic network growth across the region.

A mobile network operating at that density creates one of the richest sources of raw subscriber data in global telecommunications. The 5G investment has already been made, and the traffic is already flowing. What stays open is whether the data layer it generates becomes revenue, or remains network logs that no one monetises.

This is the layer afina’s data monetization platform was built for. The platform processes high-frequency, large-scale telecom data and transforms raw network signals into audience segments precise enough for local and global brands to target, with privacy compliance built into the architecture. For mobile operators in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and across the MENA region, that means giving advertisers campaign precision grounded in real subscriber behaviour rather than inferred third-party signals.

The scale of the opportunity is regional.

In 2024, the MENA mobile economy added $350 billion in value (GSMA Intelligence). Operators positioned to capture the next phase of that growth are the ones treating 5G as a data platform, with the faster connection as one output among several.

afina was recognised at the 2025 Asian Telecom Awards in the “A2P SMS Monetization of the Year in the UAE” category, reflecting results delivered for operators already active in this market.

For operators across MENA, the strategic question is no longer whether the infrastructure supports data monetization. The networks are built, the density is there, and subscriber data monetization is now a matter of activation rather than capability.
